Unemployment in Ireland was 5% in August — unchanged from July and only slightly higher than a year ago. The market hasn’t closed. It’s just moving more slowly and hiring far more specifically. If you’re reading four weeks of silence as a no, you may be writing off roles that are still live.

Redundancy actually is a line in somebody’s budget. It it is absolutely not a measurement of you, and I say that because what’s happening at the moment, it’s the slow part of this market that’s doing the quiet damage. Unemployment, it’s it’s still under 5%, but the number of people out of work a year has gone up by more than 15,000 in the 12 months.
That’s considerable. That’s quite a considerable number. But what I notice is employers are still employing. They’re still taking on people. They haven’t stopped hiring, but what’s happened significantly over the last year or two, which I’ve noticed, is they’ve come much slower at deciding. And this is where you know the risk sits in what week after week of silence does to what you think you’re worth.
And I see in interviews what and what people are willing to ask for after a considerable amount of time. So I think one of the things that’s really important for you know to gain confidence. And to get momentum, is just pick non-negotiables every week.
That could be like five targeted applications, maybe two conversations with people who you know in your sector, or one hour rehearsing out loud every week. And what this is, firstly, okay, it’s going to build momentum, but it’s also giving you a considerable amount of confidence.
So, let me know what are your three for this week? What are you going to do this week? Maybe DM me and let me know. I’d love to hear and I will get back to you.
